The Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said during a news conference on Tuesday that Russia could be planning a "false flag" operation in Ukraine, possibly involving chemical weapons.
The NATO chief was in Brussels, Belgium on Tuesday, speaking ahead of an extraordinary meeting of NATO defence ministers taking place on Wednesday. "I will not speculate on any military response from NATO's side except for saying NATO's main responsibility is to make sure we protect and defend all allies," Stoltenberg said when asked if Russia's potential use of chemical weapons could draw them into the fight. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has signaled its solidarity with Ukraine in the form of supplies, weapons, and sanctions since the early days of Russia’s latest incursion into its territory, but has not deployed troops for combat.
