"Sustaining Happiness Through Mindful Living" | Barry Margerum | TEDxSantaClaraUniversity

video thumbnail
Your brain is a powerful tool, but is wired for you to survive and at times subconsciously operates at cross purposes with what you might consider to be the best behavior. This presents a problem in the world where digital devices have led to increasingly high levels of stress in our lives. Being “Mindful” insures that you properly reflect on the situation before acting and behave in a way that would be most beneficial. Being present, in an open and accepting way, with the right mindset, to what you are experiencing, prepares you for this optimal behavior.

Barry Margerum has more than twenty-five years of C-level management, strategy, and marketing experience in the electronics and communications industries and is a recognized pioneer in bringing mindfulness programs into the corporate workplace. Barry brought Google’s Search Inside Yourself program to Plantronics Inc. in 2012, where he was serving as the Chief Strategy Officer. He subsequently became certified to teach the SIY curriculum and has taught mindfulness classes to executives and knowledge workers around the world. He consults with F1000 to develop compassionate leaders and corporate-wide mindfulness work practices to achieve higher levels of engagement, increased well-being and optimal performance. Margerum holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Princeton University and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University.
