Ham Karbala-iyo ki Matam hi Zindagi hai
These commemorations are life for us (devotees of) Karbala
Sab ke dilon ki dharkan Matam se chal rahi hai
Everyone’s heart beats because of these commemorations
Is dil ki hai zarurat Shabbir tera matam
This heart’s prereqiosition is Shabbir’s commemoration

Karbobala me tuj pe kya kya sitam na tute
What tragedies befell you (O Hussain) in Karbobala
Wo zulm zalimo ke chupte bhi kis tarha se
And how would the oppressor’s oppression remain concealed
Hai ban gaya Haqikat Shabbir tera matam
Shabbir your commemoration have become (embodiment) of Truth (itself)

Dekha nahi kisi ne Mazloom tere jaisa
There has never been an Oppressed person like you (O Hussain)
Karbobala ke ban me maara hai tujko pyasa
You have been killed, in thirst, on the deserted plains of Karbala
Kerti hai teri ghurbat Shabbir tera matam
Your own helplessness mourns upon you O, Shabbir

Haye Hussain Haye hounto pe hai hamare
“O, Sigh Hussain, O, Sigh” is on or lips
Zainab ki bebasi par ham ro rahe hai sare
We all are mourning Zainab’s (state of ) destitution
Zainab ki hai ye sunnat Shabbir tera matam
It is Zainab’s legacy, Shabbir your commemoration

Sukhe gale pe khanjar Zalim ka jab chala tha
When the wretched person’s dagger ran across (Hussain’s) parched throat
Ek maa ne haath aakar gardan pe rakhdiya tha
A mother (Fatima s.a.) had placed her hands on the neck (in protection)
Karti rahi Muhabbat Shabbir tera matam
A mother’s affection is mourning in Shabbir your commemoration

Zalim ko tera rutba phir bhi samaj na aaya
The Oppressor never appreciated your (lofty) status, despite
Naizay pe charh ke tune Quran jab sunaya
(When) you recited the Quranic verses atop the raised spear
Karti rahi tilawat Shabbir tera matam
Even (the tradition of) Quran recitation commemorates you, Shabbir

Zeeshan aur Asim ye hai bari Saadat
Zeeshan (poet) and Asim (reciter), this is a major honor
