The Knicks were not planning on offering Kevin Durant a full max contract: report |

Apparently concerned with how Kevin Durant would bounce back from a ruptured Achilles tendon, the Knicks were not planning on offering the former MVP a full max contract, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. On Sunday night, Durant announced that he would be joining Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan in signing with the Brooklyn Nets. But did Durant’s decision come down to the Knicks’ tepid intentions? Probably not. Stunner: Kevin Durant is signing with the Nets » Truth is that the Knicks were probably never really in the race for Durant, and likely did not want to be. Instead they offered up lame excuses to dance around this fact, such as wanting to see a medical report on Durant’s Achilles first. And sure, any team would want the latest medical data on the future Hall-of-Famer, but it’s also safe to say that any medical report provided now would only offer the slightest fraction of insight that a report would in seven months. Instead, the Knicks’ decision makers have reportedly flown out to Los Angeles, and have agreed to terms with Lakers forward Julius Randle on a three-year, $63 million deal. They are also planning to meet with Reggie Bullock.
