Joël Robuchon: 'Chef of the Century' dies of cancer after spending final years on fat and sugar-free diet Joël Robuchon, one of the world’s most celebrated chefs, has died at his home in Geneva aged 73. He held a total of 32 Michelin stars, one of which was awarded to his London restaurant in Covent Garden, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. Born in Poitiers, central France, he became an apprentice chef at a local restaurant at the age of 15 and went on to head 19 top-rated restaurants across the world, in the United States and Asia, France and Britain.
