*The critical implications of climate change for the lives, livelihoods, prosperity and security for all,* WMO Secretary-General, Prof. Petteri Taalas speaks to Force for Good.
“about half of the planet has seen an increase in flooding events, and about 1/3 of the planet has seen an increase of drought events and sea level rise … And since we have this interconnection of the economies worldwide, there's not going to be any winners, because if a large fraction of the world will suffer, economically … we will have more migration, then that's going to affect also the rest of the world. So there won't be any winners” WMO Secretary-General, Prof. Petteri Taalas speaks to Force for Good On the IPCC report, he says “typically, we have 1000 world leading scientists who are compiling the reports, and then there's typically 2500 scientists who are reviewing it … after the scientific review, they get the typically 100,000 comments from the reviewers. The final report is compiled, and then it's sent to the governments.” *SG Peterri Talaas speaks to Force for Good about:* -An overview of the extensive data collection that sets the groundwork for the IPCC report -Climate change and the impacts the world is already experiencing -How in an interconnected world everyone will be affected -Effect on North America and its status as the food basket of the world -Damage to Europe and the northward drift of desertification from Africa -Water implications for Asia -The high-level economic implications affecting wealth and assets -Migration from climate, economic and other human security crises -Highlighting severe implications for stability and humans security everywhere *Brief profile:* *Petteri Taalas* is the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, the United Nation’s specialized agency on weather, climate, and water.
