Ireland, Spain and Norway announced that they would recognize a Palestinian state on May 28, in hopes that other western countries will fall in line.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the move was aimed at accelerating efforts to secure a ceasefire in Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza, prompting Israel to recall its ambassadors.

Meanwhile as the war between Israel and Hamas rages on, mourners in Iran continue funeral celebrations for their late president Ebrahim Raisi who was killed in an Helicopter crash early Sunday morning.
