Our exploration of Top 40 radio hits has taken us from the birth of Rock and Soul in the 50s to the New Wave and Hip-Hop of the late 80s. Yet we hadn't explored the decades beyond. The corporate takeover of local stations and the emergence of music downloading severely changed Pop radio in the 90s. Regardless the format still lived on through internet & satellite stations and later on streaming services such as Pandora and Spotify.

In this episode we dive into the Rock side of 90s Pop radio. The decade was an interesting time for this genre. The echoes of Alternative, Hard & Classic Rock from the 70s & 80s can still be heard while at the same time Grunge and Indie were flourishing into their own distinctive styles.

This will be the first of several 90s Radio episodes. However, the almost complete extinction of vinyl during this decade is making finding songs on 45s & LPs more challenging than previous time periods. We appreciate your patience as we mine for the vinyl artifacts we need to produce these shows.
