Russia-Ukraine war: Attacks on Belgorod region continue

video thumbnail
Russian forces have pressed on with a “counterterrorism operation” in a border district a day after what appeared to be one of the biggest cross-border incursions from Ukraine since the war began 15 months ago.
The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region says drones were shot down over the area by anti-aircraft weaponry. There has been fighting in Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, since Monday after what Russian officials called a Ukrainian “sabotage group” crossed the border.
Ukrainian military intelligence was quoted as saying two armed Russian opposition groups – the Liberty of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps, both consisting of Russian citizens – were responsible for the attack.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Russian regional governor, said: “The cleaning of the territory by the ministry of defence together with law enforcement agencies continues.” At least eight people were wounded, several buildings damaged, and many residents had left, he added.
