video thumbnail
Dr. Carroll, who has been exploring the properties of quantum matrix composites, is still amazed that you can carry a computer in your pocket, though now he's investigating the computer power of your pocket. In this accessible talk to high school students at TEDxYout@SanDiego, he demonstrates the "smart clothing" we'll soon be wearing thanks to the rapidly unfolding wonders of nanotechnology.

With 12 patents to his name, Dr. Carroll directs innovative projects to bring new technologies to cancer therapeutics, sensor technology and bionics. He is director of the Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Caroline.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
