Soldiers of the Empire: international encounters in the Great War, then and now | Peter Stanley

video thumbnail
In this lecture, Professor Peter Stanley (University of New South Wales, Australian Defence Force Academy) looks at the ways the Great War opened up connections between parts of the British Empire and its peoples.

Peter suggests that the war created connections - ironically, connections which time obscured as national identities and sentiments also stimulated by the Great War came to dominate the way we think about it.

Peter is well known for his television and radio appearances. In 2005 he co-presented Revealing Gallipoli and has been seen in many documentaries including Monash the Forgotten Anzac, Who Do You Think You Are?, In Their Footsteps, Afterburn, Australia’s Secret Heroes, The War that Changed Us , Paddy's War, Changed Forever, 100 Days to Victory, and others broadcast over the centenary of the Great War.
