Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense" gets the big deluxe 4K reissue treatment later this month (Aug '23). As a warm-up, here's my "spectator's commentary" from a lifelong fan of both the band, and of "Stop Making Sense" as a movie in its own right. Is it still the benchmark by which all other concert films should be judged? You decide. All I know is I learnt guitar by pausing my old VHS copy to obsessively study David Byrne's chords, so my objectivity could be considered "questionable".
