One of the most appalling visuals of Monday morning was that of the Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was that of an explosion at a pedestrian bridge. The bridge with a glass floor linking Saint Volodymyr Hill and the Peoples Friendship Arch is a popular tourist destination in the city and due to the absence of vehicles is considered the least prone to military attacks. Yet, it was one of the targets of the renewed Russian attacks on Kyiv.

The tourist bridge was not the only non-military site targeted in the attacks. Other sites included popular city parks, university buildings, as well as commercial set ups. Ukraine's government has alleged that the attacks were targeting "energy centres and people". At least five people were killed in the capital, according to early reports.
