Abstract: IBS – A dietitian’s perspective Despite being one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorders across the global population, much of what causes the onset of Irritable Bowel Syndrome remains unknown. However, as studies progress, we gain a better understanding of its nature, who it affects, and factors known to contribute. This talk will look at IBS through the lens of a dietitian, including first and second line dietetic approaches to IBS management, complemented with an overview of their benefits and limitations. Delegates will develop a stronger fundamental understanding of which approach might be best for a particular patient or client based on up to the minute scientific evidence, as well as how to identify when a referral is the appropriate route. IBS – A dietitian’s perspective will home in on dietary approaches to IBS management, such as low FODMAP and supplementary interventions including prebiotics and probiotics, alongside psychological approaches. Rounding off the insights, the presentation will also look to the future to consider how the future of IBS management may develop and areas of research that could prove key. |
