DIY: Our Favorite Homemade Play-dough Recipe |
![]() |
We love to use this playdough during storytimes & other programs, and parents are always asking for the recipe. The best part about this dough is that it’s completely edible, so it's safe for all ages.
To make homemade playdough you will need: A large heat resistant mixing bowl A big spoon 2 cups of all purpose flour 4 tablespoons of cream of tartar 1 cup of salt 2 tablespoons of oil 2 cups of boiling water A large pot and spoon You can also add food coloring or flavors like cinnamon and vanilla extract but these are all completely optional. Add the flour, salt, and cream of tartar to the large heat resistant mixing bowl and mix together. Mix in oil and 1.5 cups boiling water (add food coloring or flavors to the water first if you're using them). Stir well until the dough sticks together. When it's cool enough, knead dough for about 2 minutes, adding a little water if it's too dry, or flour if it's too wet. Place the mixture into a pot or pan on the stove on medium heat and heat the dough for a few minutes to cook off any raw flour. Once it’s cooled, your dough is ready to play with! Store the dough in a resealable bag or a container with a tight lid and it should stay soft for months. |
