1. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrives in Israel for talks expected to focus on Israel's eventual end to high intensity war in Gaza and its transition to a more limited, focused conflict, officials say.

2. Japan’s Nippon Steel says it would buy U.S. Steel in a deal valued at $14.9 billion including debt months after the steelmaker put itself up for sale.

3. China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with a senior North Korean official in Beijing coinciding with Pyongyang's launch of a missile capable of reaching anywhere in the United States.

4. Iran's Oil Minister confirms the ongoing disruption to petrol stations nationwide is caused by a cyberattack. A hacking group that Iran accuses of having links to Israel claims responsibility according to Iranian state TV and Israeli media. 

5. Southwest Airlines agrees to a record $140 million civil penalty over the 2022 holiday meltdown that led to 16,900 flight cancellations and stranded 2 million passengers.
