Game Day Meditation - Preparation for Athletes

This guided meditation will help athletes prepare their minds for game day. Whatever the event or competition, a meditative video like this can help any athlete or performer prepare himself or herself mentally to be as prepared as possible. Well-being is critical for peak performance so prioritizing meditation can really benefit your performance.

To go through this meditation find yourself seated in a comfortable position. Maybe you are seated in a chair with your feet on the ground. I invite you to gently close your eyes, have your shoulders relaxed, soften your jaw, feeling relaxed, but sitting with purpose. We sit with purpose because we are filled with purpose. Now gently take a deep breath in through your nose, fill your lungs and hold it at the top. Keep holding, hold and when you’re ready, softly exhale through your nose. Let’s do that again, softly inhale through your nose, hold at the top, hold and gently release, let it all go. Let go of anything that has happened before this moment. Focus on your breath as you listen to these words. You’re going to inhale peace and calm, and exhale anything you need to let go of. Inhale strength and resilience, and exhale anything but this present moment.

This moment right now, is all that matters. Now I want you to imagine your event happening. From your warm up, to the moment it starts and as it unfolds, I want you to imagine every detail. Imagine your body moving and excelling in ways you couldn’t have imagined What are you doing? You see that everything is working out in your favour. An Effortless flow of grace and strength. What are you capable of? See again, your body moving in ways you’ve never seen. Power, skill, agility. Now focus in on something incredible that you want to happen during your performance. What is that? Imagine that feeling of succeeding. How does that feel? Now watch it happen even better than you could have imagined. Feel the feelings of this happening. Celebrate it. It is all happening now. You believe this. You believe it, so you will see it.

Now feel gratitude for this. Feel thankful for those around you. Feel gratitude for your body. Now come back to this moment. Feel the energy flowing through your body. Repeat these mantras out loud or in your head. I am confident in my abilities I am protected I am prepared I stay calm and focused under pressure I maximize every moment I thrive in competition And as you go about your pre- game routine, if you see a reflection of yourself in a mirror or window- when you glance at yourself- you are reminded of your greatness, your pure-potential, you see strength, leadership, adversity. The one who never backs down, never gives up, and you have the respect of all your peers. You are a warrior, a force, a champion and you’ve never been more ready. I’m going to count you down from 5 to 1 and as we count down- you feel yourself coming back into your body...

5 you’ve never felt more focused, more energetic, or more ready 4 coming back into your body and feeling the fire within lighting you up as your body and mind are now aligned, 3 moving around fingers and toes as you head to toe you have never felt more ready for this moment 2 take a deeeeep breath in, deeep as you can. Hold your breath, now 1 - open your eyes as you slowly exhale and take in your surroundings around you. There is no better time that right now. You were made for this. You. Are. Ready.
