Ecuadorian activist and member of both Yasunidos and Movimiento Juventud Contracorriente, Salomé, shares her experiences as a young activist and the effect that youth activism has on her society. Salomé Valdivieso is an 18 year old second-year at United World College Red Cross Nordic. Salomé comes from the high and friendly city of Riobamba, Ecuador. She was elected as the vice president of the Consultative Council in her municipality, is an active member of “Movimiento Juventud Contracorriente” in Ecuador, as well as a Yasuní’s and feminist activist. Next year she will be heading to a volunteering program in India. She aspires to study Anthropology and to work in indigenous communities in Ecuador. Salomé is interested in gender and ecological philosophy, as well as poetic literature and visual arts. Salomé is particularly interested in the role of teenagers in society. She has been involved in political protests around the right of freedom of speech and youth representation. In this TEDx event, she wants to share her experience as an activist in a particular case in her city and how this new perspective encourages her to fight for what she believes.
