Revisit, Not Revise | Ma. Cristina Bawagan | TEDxYouth@SJCS |
|
With most information within reach in society today, it is not unorthodox for fake news to come barging in our newsfeed along with legitimate ones. However, with this comes a bigger threat—historical revisionism. Maria Cristina Bawagan offers us a clearer perspective on the topic—showing us that it is far more serious and sinister than just seeing wrong information. Sharing her personal experiences and providing her testimonies, Cristina brings us back to the martial law era of the Philippines, showing us how the history taught in schools today has distorted the reality she experienced then.
Today, Cristina takes upon the responsibility of an educator as she instills to the youth the importance of looking back to historya and learning from its reality. She challenges the youth of today to use their power to revisit, in their own creative ways, the martial law period as references Mahatma Ghandi’s quote, “There is no path to peace. Peace is the path.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Aside from any matter having to do with the aforementioned family name, her work for the environment is largely recognised, which gained her the Philippine Science High School Environmentalist of the Year award for three years in a row (2013-2015) This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
