Chennai Super Kings opt to bowl

MS Dhoni will lean on him to make swift in-roads before the duel shifts to the middle-overs. It's usually a phase that Dhoni enjoys controlling, with his spinners, but the make-up of the two teams could throw a curveball his way.

Three out of Delhi Capitals' top-five batsmen are left-handed, and with Harbhajan Singh opting out, not one of CSK's spinners can turn the ball away from them to cause problems. The three-time winners themselves used this match-up to their advantage in the chase against Mumbai Indians, when they sent in the left-handed Sam Curran ahead of Dhoni because left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya still had over to bowl. Curran hit comfortably with the turn, getting a six and a four off that over, and a six-ball cameo worth 18 in all.

For Delhi Capitals, the challenge will be to tweak their early approach. In the frenzied, Super Over win, DC didn't just pocket the two points on offer; they also learnt how not to bat early on in Dubai. If they are to exploit CSK's possible spin issue in the middle phase, they will first need to re-calibrate the way they begin, to avoid making themselves susceptible to a collapse.
