New reports that are a reason to be concerned about our US housing market in 2022. For example, the average 30yr fixed rate mortgage in the US reached 5.38% - the highest levels since at least 2009. In addition, the number of loan applications for home purchases and home showings in the US by Realtors has been declining. To make matters worse, the share of loan applications for Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARMs) has been skyrocketing. According to the MBA, “The ARM share of applications reached 8.5% last week, its highest level since 2019.” At the beginning of January 2022, that share was only 3.1%.

To give you a quick mortgage interest rates update, according to the Mortgage News Daily the average 30yr fixed rate mortgage is around 5.38% for the current mortgage rates (at the time of filming this video). That’s up ~2% YTD for the average 30yr fixed rate mortgage.
