video thumbnail
Tara Krishnaswamy is a software engineer by day and a social activist by night. In this talk, she challenges our perspective on women in politics- particularly in the Indian context. She addresses predominant misconceptions about the efficiency of a woman in power to show us the need for more women in governing bodies. She also puts forth the strong demand for women in politics through her provision of various election data analyses. She throws light on various movements and efforts that have been made to ensure the same, including her own organisation, Shakti, a non-partisan group that is dedicated to enabling more women to get elected as MLAs & MPs. Tara is a software engineer by day and an activist by night. She is the founder of 'Political Shakthi' a coalition of non-partisan women that aim to enable more women to find their way into politics and legislation. Her interests include urban government, citizenship, gender politics and federalism. She also writes for several news outlets such as the Deccan Chronicle, NewsLaundry and the NewsMinute.
