"Ag-Arts: Interdisciplinary Design" | Clark Colby | TEDxGooseLake

video thumbnail
What can be learned from looking at the designed Iowa landscape from above? Using historical maps, aerial photographs, and Google Earth, Clark Colby takes Goose Lake on a journey through time and place. Clark is interested in using the lens of interdisciplinary design as a catalyst for place making that brings awareness and pride to the people who live on and own these designed, Iowa landscapes in the hopes that they will continue to protect and value them in the future.
Clark Colby is a fourth-generation Des Moines-area resident. He earned Bachelor of Architecture, Environmental Studies, and Master of Science in Architecture degrees. Currently, he is working on a Master of Arts degree. His passion is learning. He also loves traveling and has explored all 50 states, 11 Canadian provinces and 44 countries to date. This summer, he, his partner, Kristen, and dog, Lucca, are driving a cargo van to the Arctic Ocean in the Northwest Territories and Alaska; approximately 10,000 miles and 180 hours of drive time. Clark has recently taught classes in furniture design, photography, interdisciplinary design, and ceramics. He works with youth around the state of Iowa helping them share their stories through photography and audio/visual narratives. Two new state youth initiatives that he started include the 4-H Camera Corps program and the 4-H Reporters program which is a partnership with iHeart Radio and Iowa Public Television. With action, inquiry, and a creative, open mind, he hopes to save and create things and places of value for future generations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
