The Trauma of Being Black in Foster Care | Kizzy Lopez | TEDxFresnoState |
|
Black children who are raised in foster care suffer multiple disadvantages. This talk challenges viewers to get educated about injustices that happen in communities of color. Dr. Kizzy Lopez’s passion is fueled by her personal experiences as a former foster youth and experiences with homelessness while attending community college. Currently, she works as an Assistant Professor in the Social Work Degree Completion Program at Fresno Pacific University. She serves as the research faculty member for the department primarily teaching Introduction to Social Science Research and Thesis courses. Her research focuses on the experiences of underrepresented communities, particularly those who have experienced foster care or homelessness. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
