The popular Ubisoft series Assassinβs Creed set a new precedence for educational video game play with the introduction of a Discovery Tour mode in their 2017 offering, Origins. Developed with input from professional Egyptologists, this additional content allows users to traverse the ancient world on a virtual plane. Has Ubisoft hit on a winning formula that can supplement classroom learning with an engaging and immersive experience? Or does it create potential problems for its blending of factual history with a game which was not intended to be a wholly accurate reflection of the ancient world? This paper looks at the development process behind this style of gameplay and the extent to which it may benefit institutional education. ππ¨π§ππππ ππ¬ If you have any feedback or would like to get in touch, our DMs are open on Twitter @HandGLab or you can email us at historyandgamesstudentgroup@mlist.is.ed.ac.uk β Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/handglab/ β Facebook: History and Games Lab: https://www.facebook.com/historygamesedinburgh #wherehistorymeetsgames |
