In the years roughly 900s-1300s of Song Dynasty ancient China, there lived a talented man whom aside from being a respected military commander, was able to write for song and poetry. "Azure Jade Vessel · The Lantern Fair" takes inspiration from one of his most famous pieces of the same name. The piece of poem depicts a joyful, crowd-filled evening of a festival lined with lanterns throughout the streets, expensive carriages leaving a trail of perfumed fragrance, and adorned ladies of class giggling among themselves. All of these meant naught to the author apparently, as we're quickly shown that he was in fact looking for someone specific in a sea of people, only to find said person in a dimly lit part of the street.
While seemingly a romantic poem on the surface, It is said that the poem is a lamentation that actual people of talent are often neglected and left in the dark while the showy and superficial folk run amok in his beloved country.
