The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, powering the electric revolution Simon Cheeseman, Wave & Tidal Energy Sector Specialist, ORE Catapult Simonis an experienced engineer and programme manager, having worked in both the private and public sectors. Working within the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult’s Research and Innovation directorate, Simon manages the Catapult’s Cornwall Ocean Energy Centre office. He is responsible for the Catapult’s marine renewables strategy and South West regional development programme focusing on floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea. During his career Simon has held various senior manager roles with responsibility for high value technology development projects across the aerospace, communications and marine renewables sectors. Offshore Renewable Catapult – Opportunities for North of Scotland supply chain Hugh Riddell, Regional Partnership Manager, ORE Catapult Hugh joined ORE Catapult in December 2018 as Regional Partnership Manager after a career spanning over 25 years in various business development roles in the oil and gas industry. Based in the Aberdeen area, his role within the Catapult has been predominantly to engage with the oil and gas supply chain in the north of Scotland and identify ways in which we can help these companies diversify or transition into offshore renewables. Whilst heavily involved in supply chain engagement for the recently launched Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence he is also the supply chain lead for the ORE Catapult/Vattenfall collaboration agreement for the demonstration of new technologies at the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in Aberdeen Bay. Accelerating Reef Creation Around Offshore Energy Sites Whilst Reducing Decommissioning Costs Tom Birbeck, CEO, ARC Marine Tom has experience in commercial diving, aquaculture, and sustainable fishing. He co-founded ARC Marine after extensive research into man-made reefs which led to the prototyping and subsequent invention of Reef Cubes® technology. Tom successfully led the company through a seed round of investment and the R&D phase of Reef Cubes®, whilst establishing ARC Marine into the “Deep Tech” sector in which it gains momentum. His vision is for ARC Marine to pioneer the unrealised opportunity to convert every offshore construction project into a thriving marine ecosystem that can be designated for either marine conservation, habitat restoration, sustainable fishing & restocking programs and most importantly, scientific monitoring & proactive management for long term sustainable oceans. |
