Why should western democracies stop accepting dirty money | Daria Kaleniuk | TEDxVilnius

video thumbnail
Back in January 2014, Daria together with thousands of other Ukrainians witnessed Euromaidan protests that were organized with a hope for change in their home country. Many people were kidnapped and killed. Thus, activists self-arranged themselves into groups to patrol by cars the downtown territory to prevent bandits from attacking peaceful protesters.
Daria was doing different kind of protest: she and her colleagues were collecting facts and systemized documents to describe the wealth of political leaders in Ukraine and reveal how this wealth was easily connected to Western shell corporations and financial institutions. Hear her amazing story and be part of it.

Daria Kaleniuk is co-founder and Executive director of Anti-corruption Action Centre in Ukraine. She is experienced in international legal mechanisms for anti-corruption actions, particularly in stolen assets recovery and anti-money laundering initiatives. During Euromaidan protests in Ukraine she was running yanukovich.info campaign aimed at freezing assets of former Ukrainian president's Yanukovych and his associates that kept in Western jurisdictions.
