The Dark Side of Cybercrime | Larry Snyder | TEDxSpringfield

video thumbnail
Cybercrime is big business, it cost the world about 3 trillion dollars this past year, and is expected to double by 2021.That is more than the gross domestic product of nearly every country in the world, but that is just money.I do not want to talk to you about lost money, I want to talk to you about the dark, unspoken of side of cybercrime, which can only be measured in lost souls and what we can do about it. With more than 3 decades in law enforcement, fraud and auditing in the US Army and a variety of industries, including 13 years as a professor of cybersecurity, Dr. Larry Snyder brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the discussion of cybersecurity and cybercrime. Dr. Snyder believes to address cybersecurity issues we must take a broad holistic approach, inclusive of all the systems, processes and people within a community to comprehensively and diligently minimize risks and optimize responsiveness.Dr. Snyder was instrumental in developing the cybersecurity academic program for the State University of New York’s Herkimer County Community College, one of the first cybercrime programs in New York State and currently serves as the director of all cybersecurity and computer science degrees at Bay Path University. Snyder is a founding member of the National CyberWatch Center’s Curriculum Standards Panel, charged with producing the nation’s first curriculum model standard for cybersecurity education, and a member of the Phi Beta Cyber Society, an organization dedicated to speaking nationally to high school students about pursuing a career in cybersecurity. As the owner of Burbanity Consulting, Dr. Snyder works with organizations to develop cyber related training and education programs for their stakeholders. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
