"What was #Occupy? Ten years later" (10/23/21 panel) |
|
On October 23rd, 2021 the Platypus Affiliated Society hosted a public forum that asked the question "What was #Occupy? Ten years later."
The ten-year anniversary of the Occupy movement has prompted a number of retrospective assessments. These have ranged from focusing on the strategic lessons learned from Occupy to reflections about the need to rediscover the spirit of Occupy, that some may feel has been lost. In light of this, we ask the panelists the following: What was the meaning of Occupy and how does it make sense in light of the recent and distant historical experience on the Left? How did the experience of Occupy change how we think about the legacy of the Left? How have the lessons learned (or not learned) from Occupy affected the future horizons of leftist politics? Panelists: -Arun Gupta (co-founder of the Indypendent and the Occupied Wall Street Journal) -Ken Knabb (Occupy Oakland, Bureau of Public Secrets) -Pamela Nogales (Platypus Affiliated Society) -Gerald Smith (Occupy Oakland, Peace & Freedom Party, and the Oscar Grant Committee) __________________________ Curious to learn more about Platypus?
