2 जनवरी 1863 को समाज सुधारक स्वामी विवेकानंद' का जन्म कलकत्ता (कोलकाता) में हुआ था। इस तरह आजादी के बाद भारत में 12 जनवरी को राष्‍ट्रीय युवा दिवस (National Youth Day) के रूप में मनाया जाता है। स्‍वामी के इस ओजस्‍वी वाणी से भारत का युवा जागृत हो उठा था।
