معرض القاهرة الدولي للكتاب، يُعد من أكبر معارض الكتاب في الشرق الأوسط، وفي عام 2006 أُعتبر ثاني أكبر معرض بعد معرض فرانكفورت الدولي للكتاب. يزور المعرض حوالي مليوني شخص سنوياً.
The Cairo International Book Fair is one of the largest book fairs in the Middle East, and in 2006 it was considered the second largest after the Frankfurt International Book Fair. The exhibition is visited by about two million people annually.
بدأ في عام 1969، آنذاك كانت القاهرة تحتفل بعيدها الألفي، فقرر وزير الثقافة آنذاك ثروت عكاشة الاحتفال بالعيد ثقافيًا، فعهد إلى الكاتبة والباحثة سهير القلماوي بالإشراف على إقامة أول معرض للكتاب. لهذا احتفلت دورة 2008 بالقلماوي باعتبارها شخصية العام.
It began in 1969, when Cairo was celebrating its millennium anniversary, so the Minister of Culture at the time, Tharwat Okasha, decided to celebrate the holiday culturally, so he entrusted the writer and researcher Suhair Al-Qalamawi with supervising the establishment of the first book fair. That is why the 2008 edition celebrated Qalamawi as Person of the Year.
يقام في إجازة نصف العام الدراسية في نهاية شهر يناير بمركز مصر للمعرض الدولية بالقاهرة الجديدة منذ دورة 2019، وكان يُقام في السابق بأرض المعارض بمدينة نصر. ويُقام في العادة لمدة 12 يوماً ليشارك فيه ناشرون من مختلف الدول العربية والأجنبية، ويقام به أيضا العديد من الندوات الثقافية بالأضافة إلى عروض السينما والمسرح والمعارض التشكيلية والعروض الموسيقية.
It is held during the mid-year vacation at the end of January at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in New Cairo since the 2019 session, and was previously held at the exhibition grounds in Nasr City. It is usually held for 12 days, with the participation of publishers from various Arab and foreign countries, and many cultural seminars are also held in it, in addition to cinema and theater performances, plastic exhibitions and musical performances.
