Aidonia was born Sheldon Aitana Lawrence on April 6, 1981, as the second of four children to his mother Monica Lawrence, a teacher, and his father, a former soldier. He was born on Red Hills Road and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. After witnessing a recording of Sting 1993, which featured the iconic battle between Beenie Man and his hero Bounty Killer, he decided to become a DJ. Following his expulsion, he moved to the United States with his father, and worked at FedEx. He spent the following three years visiting Jamaica on a regular basis and doing a few'minor' things on the New York dancehall scene. While in New York, several people persuaded him to return to Jamaica in order to advance his career. Soon after, he began working with Rod Pinnock, of Orizen Entertainment, and in early 2004, he began performing at a weekly event called "Battle Thursdays". He debuted in early 2004 and has recorded albums on the V-P Record Label. Aidonia achieved one of his aims by working with Bounty Killer and recording “Sen Fi Dem.” Since then, he has made several appearances with Killer.
