ADHD in older adults can be misdiagnosed for dementia as when they were children 40-50 years ago, ADHD was not well researched and known as a diagnosis. Therefore many older people with ADHD lived with their symptoms, often suffering in silence and blaming themselves for their failures. With advancing age their symptoms can be taken for dementia.
