Raga Mangeyabushan
Alap, Jhor & Jhala ( 40.26 ) A) ( 19.16 ) B) ( 21.10 ) Zia Mohiuddin Dagar - Rudra Veena & Tamboura Recorded from Vinyl In the beginning of the 1960s, Zia Mohiuddin Dagar contracted instrument-maker Kanan Lal to construct a rudra veena, larger-and therefore with a lower register- than ussual. On januari 31, 1968, Z.M.D. recorded two takes of an extended 45-minute raga titled " Raga Gangeyabushan ". One take was released on LP in the early 70s and in 2001, sweden`s Amigo label devoted the second take on a CD. Originally the piece was released as " Raga Mangeyabushan " but it is now known through Z.M.D.s son Bahauddin that the correct title " Gangeyabushan " is. ( Information taken from internet ) I chose the first take released in 1974 that, despite its abrupt end of side A and some little noises along the recording, has, compared with the other take ( recorded the same day ) a much cleaner and, above all, deeper sound. |
