Emotional well-being -- are we failing our teenagers? | Shiela Cox-Lousada | TEDxSWPS |
|
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Sheila recounts her own experience as a teenager as a ‘back-drop’ to her talk about the importance of building ‘emotional well- being’ into the school curriculum.
Following a successful career in Research and Planning, Sheila decided to re-train as a Life Coach. Initially, she worked with adults. Through this work she soon realised that the issues that many of the adults were dealing with originated from their teenage years. As a result, she changed her focus to work with teenagers and young people to help them build confidence, self-esteem and self-belief. In addition to working with teenagers, she is involved in a parent coaching business which helps guide Mums and Dads through parenthood in a positive and resourceful way. Primarily, she does this work through coaching based workshops but she also does one to one coaching. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) |
