Khabib Nurmagomedov has spoken up about the status of the UFC lightweight division.

Speaking to Match TV yesterday, Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed that UFC president Dana White wants to meet with the lightweight champion again in late February with updates regarding the 155-pound division.

Nurmagomedov said that the UFC is working toward booking a UFC Lightweight Championship fight in June.

“[UFC President] Dana [White] is honest. He will come to the journalists with the message I sent him a week ago. I told him what kind of development I want - not only in my career, but in general in the lightweight division. I don't like the current situation. You don't need to get information out of me. I told him that I don't like being in limbo," Nurmagomedov told the media (per EuroSport).

Khabib also reflected on the Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor fight and shared that he believes Poirier deserves to be the UFC lightweight champion.

"I would not say that Poirier and McGregor disappointed me. They didn't show anything supernatural. I fought with Poirier, nothing special. It's the same with Conor. I think that now Poirier deserves to be a champion. This is my opinion. Look at those fighters with whom he fought - Jim Miller, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis, Max Holloway. These are all top fighters who can enter the UFC Hall of Fame," per EuroSport.
