Is a Heart Rate Strap Necessary? Or is Your Watch Sensor Good Enough?

video thumbnail
If you're serious about heart rate training, you absolutely have to get a heart rate strap.

Period.

Not only is there a much higher risk of inaccuracy when using the optical sensor on your watch while running, but the fact of the matter is that the watch sensor doesn't actually measure your heart rate!

A chest strap measures the electrical signals from your heart, aka your actual heart rate. And that right there should tell you everything you need to know about why a heart rate strap is far superior to the sensor on your watch.
