Bernardo Silva has revealed his preferred position to play for Manchester City, as the Portuguese playmaker has finally begun to receive the credit he deserves for his performances so far this season. Bernardo effectively started the season as a stand-in for Kevin De Bruyne when the Belgian was injured, but a series of impressive performances from midfield have turned him into Pep Guardiola's most trusted players. The energetic attacking midfielder has been praised in recent weeks for his all-action performances that have seen City leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Premier League after going into 2019 seven points behind. And Bernardo has been crucial to City's title challenges this season, operating in various positions across the midfield, from a more deep-lying role to supporting striker to traditional winger. But Bernardo has revealed his preferred position is from the right, where he can base his runs at the defence and support the attack. He told ManCity.com: "You have some areas on the pitch where you feel a little bit more comfortable, but me I've played almost all my career on the right side as an offensive midfielder, or number 8. That's where I feel more comfortable. "Then you try to learn wherever you play. When I play in the middle I know it requires different things but I try to be good and learn to feel comfortable everywhere I go on the pitch." After playing more centrally in the absence of De Bruyne this season, Bernardo says he has improved his game. He explained: "For example now I'm playing more in the middle I know how it is important it is defensively, when you go and press high that the right winger comes back and helps out inside. "Now maybe if I go back playing on the right side I will know how important it is to do that job. It helps you understand what other players feel when you play with them so it's good to try new positions. "I like the challenge. When I play a more defensive role in terms of position against Liverpool away it was a challenge for me. It's good, I'm happy with challenges and to try new positions."
