Gaza's second largest city was the scene of fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants on Sunday, although many parts of the city have already been subjected to Israeli airstrikes for the past two months. With this evacuation order, the number of safer areas inside Gaza is reducing by the day. The World Health Organization (WHO) has described the situation as “catastrophic,” as it unanimously adopted a resolution calling for immediate medical access to Gaza. Redmond Shannon reports.

In addition, hostilities underscoring Israel's assault on Hamas are having a significant impact beyond the Gaza Strip, as a global diplomatic effort continues to unfold to find a way to stop the fighting. With only two days left of the United Nations (UN) COP28 climate summit, major energy producers are pushing back against an international commitment to end the use of oil and gas, with OPEC nations among those resisting the hardest.
