Labor Trafficking, Global Warming, and Taking Action | Alicia Margono | TEDxAlmansorPark |
|
When Alicia was seven, the Indian Ocean Tsunami hit an island several kilometers from where she lived. It was only years later that she heard about the hundreds of people had disappeared into trafficking-related activities. Climate change causes and exacerbates many problems that damage human dignity. Trafficking, particularly labor trafficking, is one area. Damage to livelihoods through the changing world leads millions of people, including children, are coerced, forced, or lured with false promises into debt bondage and other forms of slavery each year. More conversations need to happen; now is the time to act.
Alicia Margono is an Indonesian-Canadian researcher with bachelor’s in International Relations and Psychology.
