In the third video of the course, we will be exploring the period following the fall of the western Roman Empire - the Early Middle Ages - a period in which the ruins of one age provided the foundation to a new one. In Britain, we’ll see the rise of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and the beginning of England. On the European continent, we’ll see the rise of the Frankish kingdom, lead by King Clovis and his heirs. In Anatolia, we’ll watch the vestiges of the old Roman Empire transform into something new - the Greek-speaking Byzantine Empire. In the Middle East, we’ll witness the rise of Arabic civilization and the birth of a new world religion: Islam. The textbook for the course is Barbara Rosenwein's A Short History of the Middle Ages: US Amazon Link: https://amzn.to/3qIizf2 Canadian Amazon Link: https://amzn.to/3xtQjk6 It's a great introduction to the Middle Ages and very easy to read with lots of great maps, pictures and primary sources. For those who are interested (I am often asked by teachers), the microphone that I use to record my videos is the Blue Yeti USB microphone. https://amzn.to/3BhAGxi It's on the pricier side but a great investment. If you are serious about having great sound for your lectures, it is worth every penny.
