"I mean I've done easier films (laughs). This is quite ambitious but you've got to have the right team around you so we're combining east and west here and so I've got all my crew, my ADs are all around me and then Sarouj Khan, the choreographer, she's doing what she does with her team so what I'm dopin is going between the two and making sure I get what I need for my actors and for my audience, while she does what she does. So I let her do things and then I make it work for me and what I need."

"I have very little to do, fortunately for me, my character sort of abstains from a lot of the physical stuff so I get to sort of hang out on the outskirts and look down my nose at the natives but it's good. I think it's going to be wonderful. I mean already there's such a great energy you know,. I mean, you can see everybody involved, it's very positive and Gurinder's brought a great group of people together - it's great."

"It's a very interesting film on its own. I mean because of the format mainly, like I said earlier, because she's really bringing all these three aspects together and so we all have something to learn and something to give to this film and learn from and give to and I think that's just a wonderful experience by itself and each day is full, it's rich, we learn and we give and it's brilliant."

"I was born in London and my parents were born in the South, so they're not Punjabi, so this was a completely new thing to me. I mean I remember dancing a bit back at drama school but I used to skive, you know, I never really liked it. So I had to bloody do it, do you know what I mean?"

"Well my character is singing to Mia who is one of the sisters, who is Asha's sister and it's a kind of... they fall in love during this song. When you see a Bollywood movie, I used to think it was cheesy and bollocks but there is a kind of innocence there which is very pure and I hope that we are bringing that out. Because we are doing it, it is going to have a different kind of edge to it hopefully."

JANE AUSTEN GOES TO BOLLYWOOD

Filming begins this week of a Bollywood style re-telling of Pride and Prejudice titled 'Bride and Prejudice'.

The production comes from the team behind the UK and US box office hit 'Bend It Like Beckham' - British director/ producer Gurinder Chadha and producer Deepak Nayar - and will blend the best of mainstream Indian cinema, featuring spectacular song and dance sequences in the Bollywood style, with that of the classic Hollywood musical.

Starring in the film is Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai ('Devdas') as Lalita, and one of Hollywood's rising stars Martin Henderson ('The Ring') as Darcy. The cast of UK, Indian and US talent also includes Daniel Giles, Naveen Andrews, Namrata Shirodkar and Indira Varma.

The film stays faithful to Jane Austen's central story of a mother and father with unmarried daughters, and no dowry to help entice rich, well bred husbands. The Bennets become the Bakshis, who live in small town India, and Darcy is an American, the wealthy son of a hotelier.
