The First Plane to Fly? The 1890 Ader Éole #shorts

video thumbnail
The Ader Éole airplane is considered by many as the first powered aircraft in history. Designed by the French engineer Clément Ader, it was first tested on October 9, 1890, in the outskirts of Paris. The Éole had a bat-like design, with a wingspan of 14 meters and a weight of around 600 pounds. Its propulsion system consisted of a steam engine that powered two pusher propellers.

During its first test, the Éole was able to take off and fly a distance of about 150 feet at an altitude of around 10 inches, marking the first recorded flight of a powered aircraft. Despite its historical significance, the Éole had many limitations, including its short flight distance and lack of directional control. Nonetheless, it paved the way for further developments in aviation, inspiring later inventors to refine the design and make aviation a reality. @AnyHistory
