Did Dr. Oppenheimer regret the creation of atomic weapons through the Manhattan Project? I think it's more complex than that one question. However, I do think it's fair to say that there was concern about the power that had been unleashed on the world. In the aftermath of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, people who were involved in the Manhattan Project-- including J. Robert Oppenheimer -- turned to a man that few have heard of: Norman Cousins. Why? Cousins had a way with words, and he had built up a reputation for being someone who was not afraid to speak his mind on complex issues. In this clip from episode 56 of The Neutral Ground Podcast, my guest ( Dr. Allen Pietrobon ) and I discuss this relationship between the scientists from The Manhattan Project and Norman Cousins.
