Jessica Chastain was widely praised for wearing a mask while sitting in the audience at the 95th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday.

The 45-year-old actress was one of the only people wearing a mask in a crowd of Oscars attendees that was clearly seen in a clip where host Jimmy Kimmel asked her a question as part of a comedic segment.

The Ava star looked surprised as the camera panned towards her before taking off her black mask - matching her plunging rhinestoned gown with a black velvet train - to respond.
The late night talk show host, 55, asked about her experience working with her costar Matt Damon in 2015 film The Martian - jokingly reigniting his fake feud with the actor.

Fans quickly took to social media to praise the George And Tammy actress for remaining conscious of the still-present COVID-19 pandemic.
Because Chastain is currently starring on Broadway in the revived play, A Doll's House, she carefully wore a mask in consideration of her cast and crew in New York.

The comedian jokingly prompted the question: 'Was it difficult filming your movie, The Martian, because your costar, Matt Damon, can't read and smells like dog medicine?'

In response, she laughed before quipping back: 'I didn't really have a lot of scenes with him, so it was fine.'

Multiple Twitter users were quick to praise the Oscar winner - who received the gong for Best Actress last year for her role in The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.

The 95th Academy Awards will be hosted by late night chat show host Jimmy Kimmel and are being held at the regular venue of the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
