video thumbnail
Calgary has always proven itself to be innovative and resilient in the face of new challenges, from Indigenous peoples making a home here many generations ago, through ground-breaking railroad building and energy development, to the city's residents recovering from the 2013 floods. Mary Moran, President and CEO of Calgary Economic Development, highlights several exciting opportunities for our city's economy to take on new horizons of growth, emphasizing our strong business and social advantages and the growing imperative to expand our technology talent to support many different sectors.
Mary became President and CEO of Calgary Economic Development in June 2015 and under her leadership there has been a focus on the broader sense of prosperity for businesses and individuals to build a more economically diverse and vibrant community.

At Calgary Economic Development, Mary led teams that created the Calgary. Be Part of the Energy promotional brand adopted by all civic agencies, the award-winning flood recovery YYCisOPEN campaign, oversaw a refocusing of the Economic Strategy for Calgary: Building on our Energy, and the Hey Amazon campaign that earned global attention for Calgary.

Mary earned an MBA from Royal Roads University and is active in the Calgary community. She is a director on several non-profit boards, including Sport Calgary, Calgary Sport Tourism Authority, Calgary Police Foundation, Beakerhead and Van Horne Institute. She is also a past president of Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
