'Obsessed with Chelsea': Fabrizio Romano claims player has been ostracised amid personal agreements with Blues
Wesley Fofana will not take part in Leicester City’s home fixture against Southampton on Saturday, as Chelsea are expected to make an improved bid for the young centre-back, according to Fabrizio Romano. Just a couple of days ago, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers was still adamant that Fofana was still not for sale this summer. The 21-year-old even still featured in the Foxes’ first two Premier League matches, a draw against Brentford and a defeat to Arsenal. This time, however, Leicester have reportedly made the decision that the player is not in the right frame of mind to play this weekend. “Wesley Fofana is not going to play in Leicester’s next game against Southampton because he’s focused on [the potential transfer to Chelsea],” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “This is the position of the club. “[Although] I’m told that the player was ready to play, he wanted to respect Leicester’s decision. So there are two different positions here from Leicester and Fofana. “The reality is that the [potential] deal with Chelsea is still there. “No new bid yet, but Chelsea will submit a new proposal. They have an agreement with the player, who wants Chelsea. “Fofana is obsessed with and waiting for Chelsea, after agreeing personal terms on a six-year deal, but it is now up to Chelsea to close the deal with Leicester next week.” An earlier report from Sky Sports claimed that it was Rodgers himself who made the decision. The report also mentioned that Fofana is “increasingly frustrated” after learning that Leicester want a world-record centre-back fee to sell him, having already turned down two bids in excess of £60million from Chelsea. If, as the reports suggest, Fofana has been left out of the squad, it is pretty clear that Leicester and Rodgers are aware of the player’s reported interest in joining Chelsea. |
