VFW Post 8974 Auxiliary, Oral History from the Greater Centerville Historians (MCHS 2016.16.32)
About the Greater Centerville Historians: Greater Centerville Historians is an associate group that focused on the collection of oral history. Through almost 15 years of this taping, we have accumulated over one hundred DVDs on specific topics of Centerville area history. The Township of Centerville (Manitowoc County) was established in 1850. The township had a village called Centerville, named for its location halfway between Manitowoc and Sheboygan. In 1856, the village of Centerville was renamed Hika. Two miles west of Hika, a settlement named St. Wendel was named Cleveland. In 1958, Cleveland, Hika, and St. Wendel were incorporated into the village of Cleveland. The compiled oral histories are part of the archives collection at the Manitowoc County Historical Society (Manitowoc, Wisconsin). For educational use only.
