When I turned 30, I was hit with a bout of anxiety that wouldn’t go away. The pressure I was feeling is what I now recognize as death anxiety. Turning 30 was a milestone birthday that caused me to have to reflect on my life in a way that was new to me. For the first time I realized that I’m getting old, I now dread my birthdays, I’m starting to bald and have grey hairs appearing, and it takes a lot more effort to shed unwanted pounds. These little indicators reinforced the fact that I’m getting older, and that fact was finally starting to penetrate my mind. I was consumed by the thought “I’m getting old, which means I’m getting closer to my own death.” This realization really shook me up and affected me in a way that caused me to enter a personal stint of therapy. Over the past year I dived headfirst into the topic of death anxiety, and learned so much that I now consider myself somewhat of an expert on the subject. So, with all this newfound knowledge I decided to make a guide for those also struggling with death anxiety.
